Maritime Autonomous Systems Engineer

About Greenroom Robotics

Greenroom Robotics is an Australian robotics and AI company building world-leading autonomy software for maritime platforms. Our technology turns crewed vessels and uncrewed systems into intelligent, mission-capable assets, supporting defence, security and commercial customers in some of the most demanding ocean environments on the planet.

We’re a small, high-performing team that ships real capability fast. Our work is hands-on, our impact is tangible, and our people sit at the intersection of software, robotics and the sea.

The Role

Our Maritime Autonomous Systems Engineers (MASEs) provide the operational and technical backbone for our work with AUV, ROV, ASV and related platforms. You’ll move fluidly between the office and the wharf. One week troubleshooting a sensor payload in Perth, the next operating systems on a customer vessel offshore.

You’ll bring a unique perspective to a highly functioning development team, helping us solve complex systems-engineering challenges and shape how autonomy is operated in the real world.

What you’ll do

Your day-to-day will vary with project priorities and team structure, but the role is built around:

  • Operating and supporting autonomous maritime systems (AUV / ROV / ASV) through preparation, testing, trials and deployment
  • Providing written technical advice on RAS&AI systems, data and sensors
  • Developing management frameworks for autonomous systems based on your experience and expertise
  • Managing MAS assets for testing, customer operations and demonstrations, including engineering and system management frameworks, maintenance procedures and spares
  • Coordinating the data, equipment, people, logistics and services that keep operations running, including vessel service providers, facilities and tools
  • Troubleshooting and resolving technical issues across the autonomous systems stack
  • Engaging with OEM and industry partners to deepen system knowledge and unblock technical problems
  • Communicating risks, challenges and capabilities clearly to a range of stakeholders, from engineers to senior customers
  • Representing Greenroom at planning, technical and engineering workshops
  • Attending offshore field campaigns to operate autonomous systems on behalf of clients

What you’ll bring

  • Hands-on experience operating or supporting maritime autonomous systems such as AUV, ROV, ASV or comparable platforms
  • A strong systems-engineering mindset and the ability to reason across software, hardware, sensors and data
  • Confidence troubleshooting unfamiliar problems in the field, often under time pressure
  • Excellent written and verbal communication. You can brief a customer, write a clear procedure, and document what happened after a trial
  • Willingness to travel for offshore field campaigns of varying duration
  • Eligibility (or ability to obtain) an Australian security clearance

Nice to have

  • Prior maritime industry, navy or defence experience
  • Familiarity with marine sensors (sonar, INS, GNSS, cameras, etc.) and their integration
  • Experience writing engineering procedures, test plans or operational documentation

Why Greenroom

  • Work on technology that matters, deployed on real platforms, with real customers
  • Small team, high autonomy: your work is visible and your judgement is trusted
  • A blend of office and offshore work. No two months look the same
  • Sit alongside some of Australia’s strongest robotics and autonomy engineers
  • Perth-based with travel, close to the ocean we work on
