Greenroom Robotics | Full-Time | Australia

Own the technical side of how we win, deliver and support customers
Greenroom Robotics is an Australian maritime technology company developing software for autonomous, remote and digitally enabled vessel operations.
Our technology is being deployed across defence, commercial maritime and offshore operations, helping customers introduce autonomy, advanced perception and software-defined capability onto real vessels operating in real environments.
As we grow, we are looking for a Senior Solutions Engineer to join our Growth team and own the technical side of how we develop, scope and support customer solutions.
This isn't a traditional sales engineering role where you're brought in at the end of a sales call to answer technical questions. You'll be involved from the start, and you'll stay involved after the contract is signed.
You'll work directly with customers to understand what they're trying to achieve, how their vessels and systems work, and what it will actually take to integrate Greenroom technology successfully. You'll then work across our Growth, Technology and Maritime Operations teams to turn that understanding into a credible technical solution, implementation approach and commercial scope.
A major part of the role is making sure we understand technical and operational risk before we commit to a project. You'll help us answer questions like:
- Can we actually deliver what the customer is asking for?
- How does it integrate with the vessel?
- What systems, sensors and interfaces do we need to understand?
- What engineering effort will be required?
- What could make the project harder than it first appears?
- Have we captured that effort and risk properly in our proposal?
Just as importantly, you'll help build how Greenroom looks after customers once our technology is in the water. You'll own the initial technical triage of customer support issues, and you'll play a central role in shaping the processes, tools and standards that make our customer success capability scale as our fleet of deployed vessels grows.
What you’ll do
- Lead technical discovery with defence and commercial maritime customers.
- Develop solution architectures and technical implementation plans covering software, compute, networking, sensors, vessel systems and third-party integrations.
- Support the Growth team across customer meetings, workshops, demonstrations, site visits, bids and proposals.
- Work closely with our engineers and maritime operators to scope new projects and develop engineering estimates.
- Identify technical and operational risks before contracts are signed, and make sure they are reflected in pricing, schedules and scope.
- Define project assumptions, interfaces, dependencies and acceptance approaches.
- Make sure won work hands over cleanly into delivery, with a clear technical baseline and documented customer expectations.
- Own initial technical support triage for deployed customers, resolving first-line issues and escalating the rest with the information our engineers need.
- Work alongside our Account Managers to stay across the technical health of customer deployments and spot issues before they become problems.
- Help design and build Greenroom's customer success capability, including support processes, escalation pathways, knowledge resources and feedback loops into product and engineering.
- Develop reusable solution architectures, templates, discovery processes and technical sales material.
- Manage and mentor our Graduate Solutions Engineer.
What we’re looking for
We're less interested in a particular job title than in finding someone who can sit comfortably between customers, engineers and operators.
You might currently be a Solutions Engineer, Systems Engineer, Integration Engineer, Applications Engineer or technically minded project engineer.
You'll need enough technical depth to earn the trust of experienced engineers, while also being able to explain complex systems clearly to customers and commercial teams.
You will ideally bring:
- Experience in solutions engineering, systems engineering, applications engineering, integration engineering, technical sales or a similar customer-facing technical role.
- A demonstrated ability to translate customer and operational requirements into practical technical solutions.
- Experience with complex systems incorporating both software and hardware.
- A strong understanding of systems integration, interfaces, networking, sensors and distributed systems.
- Experience developing technical scopes, implementation plans and acceptance criteria.
- Experience identifying and managing technical risk in the early stages of projects.
- Experience supporting customers after deployment, or building support or customer success processes.
- Strong written and verbal technical communication skills.
- Experience mentoring, supervising or managing junior technical staff.
- A willingness to travel up to 50% of the time.
Experience in maritime autonomy, robotics, defence, marine electronics, navigation, vessel control systems or offshore operations would be highly regarded.
Most importantly, you'll need good technical judgement. We want someone who is excited about finding ways to make ambitious projects work, but who is equally comfortable saying, "we need to understand this better before we commit to it."
A security clearance is not required. Applicants must already have the right to work full-time in Australia, and will be subject to pre-employment checks in line with our Defence Industry Security Program obligations.
Why Greenroom?
You'll be joining a rapidly growing Australian robotics company working on genuinely interesting maritime problems.
Our software is being deployed on vessels ranging from small autonomous craft through to large commercial and defence platforms, and you'll have direct exposure to customers, vessels, engineering teams and projects from day one.
You'll also have the opportunity to shape what Solutions Engineering and customer success look like at Greenroom as we grow, rather than stepping into a mature function where everything has already been decided.
