In maritime operations, situational awareness is everything. Whether it’s a bridge crew navigating busy waters or an autonomous vessel operating independently, maintaining a clear, accurate understanding of the surroundings is critical. Lookout+ delivers that awareness—an advanced yet easy-to-use system that enhances human decision-making and enables autonomous operations. With a simple software installation on existing cameras, vessels instantly gain enhanced situational awareness, improving safety and efficiency from day one.

Seeing What Others Miss

Traditional navigation tools like radar and AIS (Automatic Identification System) assist vessels in detecting and tracking nearby objects, but they have limitations. While radar operates in all weather conditions and AIS provides identification and positioning data for vessels transmitting signals, these systems do not detect everything. Small boats, floating debris, and other hazards that lack AIS transponders or have low radar reflectivity may go unnoticed

In all conditions, human watchkeepers rely on visual observation alongside radar, AIS, and other navigational aids to maintain situational awareness. Visual detection is essential for identifying hazards that may not appear on electronic systems. However, in low-visibility conditions such as fog, darkness, or areas with high traffic density, spotting and tracking objects becomes significantly more challenging. This increases the risk of missed detections, which can result in collisions, near misses, or delayed responses to potential hazards.

Lookout+ addresses this challenge by processing real-time visual data from onboard cameras and sensors to detect, classify, and track objects—including those that radar and AIS may not register or that human watchkeepers might struggle to see. By providing a more complete operational picture, Lookout+ enhances situational awareness, enabling both crewed and autonomous systems to make faster, safer, and more informed decisions.

Supporting Bridge Crews

For human-operated vessels, Lookout+ enhances bridge crews by providing additional situational awareness, helping them:

  • Detect and track small, hard-to-see objects before they become a hazard.

  • Navigate safely in congested waterways and challenging environments.

  • Reduce cognitive workload by identifying and prioritising potential hazards, allowing watchkeepers to focus on critical decision-making.

It integrates seamlessly with existing vessel systems, delivering information in an intuitive and user-friendly way. The enhanced camera view from Lookout+ is accessible to all crew members onboard and remotely from shore, ensuring a shared, real-time understanding of the vessel’s environment.

Enabling Autonomous Vessels

For autonomous systems, Lookout+ is an essential input. Just as human crews need awareness to navigate safely, so do unmanned vessels. Lookout+ provides real-time perception, allowing autonomy systems to:

  • Detect and classify obstacles to enable dynamic course adjustments.

  • Enhance safety by supplementing radar and AIS with additional detection capabilities.

  • Navigate with confidence in complex, unpredictable environments.

By acting as the “eyes” of an autonomous vessel, Lookout+ ensures that AI-driven systems receive reliable, high-quality data for informed decision-making.

Flexible, Scalable, and Ready to Deploy

A key advantage of Lookout+ is its plug-and-play design—it works with any vessel, any camera system, and any autonomy platform. Whether installed on new builds or retrofitted to existing fleets, it provides an immediate and cost-effective way to improve maritime awareness.

A Smarter Way to Navigate

Whether supporting bridge crews or guiding autonomous vessels, Lookout+ is making maritime operations safer, smarter, and more efficient. In an industry where every second counts, better awareness leads to better decisions—and ultimately, better outcomes.
